How to choose a wellness practitioner

4 min read

Picking someone to work on your health is a trust decision, not a shopping decision. Here's what actually tells you whether a practitioner is a fit.

Start with the outcome, not the modality

Most people start by picking a discipline — yoga, nutrition, physiotherapy — and then look for someone who does it. That is backwards. Start with what you want to change: sleeping through the night, moving without pain, eating without thinking about it constantly.

Practitioner profiles lead with specialties for exactly this reason. If nothing on a profile speaks to your situation, the credentials underneath don't matter much.

Read the credentials, not just the badge

Every verified practitioner on Maarwell has had their identity and selected credentials reviewed by our team before the badge appears. The badge means someone checked; it does not mean every practitioner is right for you.

Look at what the credential is actually in, and when it was earned. A certification in a neighbouring field is not the same as training in the thing you need.

Reviews tell you about fit, not just quality

Ratings compress a lot of information into one number. The written reviews are where the useful signal is: people tend to describe how a practitioner works — talkative or quiet, structured or responsive, gentle or demanding.

You are looking for someone whose style matches how you like to be worked with. A five-star practitioner who runs sessions in a way you dislike is still a bad match.

Use the match quiz if you're starting cold

If you don't know what you're looking for yet, the match quiz asks about your goals, the support you want, and your availability, then ranks real practitioners against your answers.

It is a starting point, not a verdict — the ranked results link straight to full profiles so you can apply everything above.

Ask before you commit to a package

Message a practitioner before booking a block of sessions. Ask what a first session looks like, what they expect from you between sessions, and what happens if you need to cancel.

Cancellation terms are set by each practitioner and shown before you confirm. Read them once — it is the detail people most often wish they had checked.
